Drama

Drama is usually a genre that includes play, but for our purposes, drama is the genre that deals with teenagers facing difficult situations. This includes books like those written by Lurlene McDaniel.

Summary: A girl has had swollen glands for a long time now and they won’t go away so she goes the doctors one day. When she gets home she gets a phone call from the doctor’s office and she finds out that she has cancer. She goes to the hospital and gets examined; her parents and aunt are all there with her. She doesn’t really care and is very relaxed about the whole thing.
Recommended/ Not Recommended: Yes
Why: I would recommend this book to mainly girls because it is more of a girl book than a guys, although guys could probably read this book if they choose. I recommend this book because it is sad yet very interesting, I like how it made me want to know what happens next in the book. It kept me very interested in the story line. The book had a good theme to it. I also liked how the main character was very relaxed when she found out that she had cancer. I thought it was a very good book.
Elements of Fiction: The best element of fiction in my book was when she got cancer.

Title: Mates, Dates, and Sizzling Summers.
By: Cathy Hopkins
Summary: This book is about T.J and she is torn between the boys, and unhappy that it makes her look like a two-timer. But it all seems unimportant when someone close to her is taken seriously ill. More than ever T.J needs a clear head and the support of her friends as she faces the most important summer of her life.
Boys are like buses for T.J. No sign of one for ages and then two come along at the same time! First there’s charmer Ollie Axford. And just when T.J has decided that he could be the one, old flame Luke De Biasi tells her that he wants to rekindle their romance.

I would recommend this book to a girl because it is something that a girl would want to read and a boy would no want to read a book like this. A girl should read this book and they would probably like it. I recommend this book to a girl because it is for girls and not boys. I would say that it is an interesting book and that a lot of people should read it. It is a very interesting book and that a lot of people would like to read it. Boys do not want to read this, girls would want to read a story like this because it is for girls.

The Lilies of the Field
By William Barrett
This book was about a young adult named Homer. He built a lot of buildings.
He built a couple of churches. Some sisters asked him to build a church and he got that job. I liked that book because building a lot of buildings is hard work. When I try doing that, I shouldn’t give up. I like the character, Homer because he is a good builder. I would recommend this book to a friend because it’s about a builder. Homer’s churches are nice. He gave the sisters lots of nice things. I really enjoyed that story because it grabbed my attention.

Title: Sealed With a Diss
Author: Lisi Harrison
Summary:
This book is about some rich private school girls. It sounds dull, and I probably wouldn’t like it if Lisi Harrison wasn’t the author J! Massie leads a clique, Alicia, is obsessed with Ralph Lauren and boys, Dylan who loves to eat, Kristen, who is the sporty one, and Claire, the not so rich normal girl that moved into Massie’s guest house. The girls are faced with trying to keep the secret room at their school to themselves, but to do this they have to do anything 8th grade clique leader, Skye, wants them to do including give up some of the things they want to keep to themselves.
Comments: Good Book! Humorous. In some ways, this book is easy to relate to, but in other ways it is hard to relate to because the characters are my age but way different than me. Good plot. The characters are totally original. This story takes place in New York, so the weather is easy to relate to. I think the message of this book is, though popularity seems so great, really when you think about everything you do to be “popular” it is really funny!
I would recommend this book to any girls because Lisi Harrison can get anyone into a book!
