Bread And Roses Too
By: Katherine Paterson
This book is about the 1912 strike. Rosa’s mother and her older sister (Anna) joined the 1912 strike against the mill owners and they are endangering their lives. Rosa was sent to Vermont with other children to live with strangers until the strike is over. She is terrified that she might not see her family again. A little boy bugged her; he asked to pretend that she is his older sister.
I recommend this book to anyone that loves a page turning book with a lot of suspense. Also to someone that understands what it’s like to not getting what you want and what you need or not being listened to and getting beaten by the cops.
The element of non-fiction that stood out to me was the character Rosa. She was always so confused or sacred or caring to all of the other characters.

Title: Bass Reeves
Author: Gary Paulsen
Summary: This book was about a slave named Bass Reeves. This boy grew up with his mother on a plantation. Through out the years he lived on the plantation he learned to many things. One day he escapes the plantation and he heads north. Many years later he became a marshal and he enforced the many laws that were being broken.
Comments: The setting of the book had to be in the south because many of the plantations were in the south during that time period.
Recommend/ Not Recommend: I would recommend this book because I think the author gave a great understanding about how life was back in that time.
