Fantasy

Fiction that contains elements that are NOT realistic, such as talking animals, magical powers, etc. Make-believe is what this genre is all about.

Title: The Bridge To Terabithia

Author: Katherine Paterson

Summary: This book was about these two kids finding their own special land with magical creatures that only they can see.

Comments: The book is very funny, very sad it might even make you cry. A theme I noticed is the friend ship between Jess and Leslie threw out the story until the end when one of them looses their friend. It’s just like loosing your best friend; I don’t know what I would do if I lost my best friend.

Recommended/not recommend: Yes, I recommend this book. I really enjoyed reading it and I don’t like reading at all that says that it’s a good book.

Title: Cirque Du Freak Book 8
Author Darren Shan
Summary: The book Cirque Du Freak is about a boy named Darren that was turned into a half-vampire. He had just turned into a prince and a fellow prince died of old age (he was like 800 years old).
Darren Shan, Larten Crepsley, and Harkat have been trying the vampeneze who have been killing people in the city. When they found where the vampeneze were, they went to the place. When they got down there was a ton of vampeneze and then they started to fight. When one of the vampeneze said that they would give them five minuets to get out of the tunnel and so they did and none of them got hurt. Steve Leonard was a human friend of the vampires and then he turned and he started fighting against Darren. That was the end of the book.

I recommend this book because the book is really intense about vampires and vampeneze. Anybody that likes that stuff then they should really consider this series of books.

Title: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
By: J.K. Rowling

Summary: The Harry Potter series is the story of a young wizard who is the first and only person to have survived a killing curse, just after his parents were killed, leaving him to live with his non-magic aunt and uncle. When he was eleven, he received a letter telling him that he has been accepted to a wizarding school and at fifteen he finds out that he has been destined since before he was born to defeat the most powerful dark wizard ever to come, Lord Voldemort. The seventh and final book begins just before Harry’s seventeenth birthday. He and his two best friends have to go on a long journey to find items called horcruxes, which belonged to Voldemort. A horcrux is an item containing a piece of a person’s soul; therefore it could be used to bring them back from the dead. Once all Voldemort’s horcruxes were destroyed, he could be finally defeated for good.

Comments: This is a very good book, and even though it seems like a little kids story, a little kid could not understand the big words and crazy plot twists.

Plot: The plot is extremely eventful, if you’d want to read this book, be prepared to hang onto every word and be ready for many plot twists. The plot is basically Harry and his friends trying to get every horcrux and destroy them before Voldemort can realize that they’re gone, or before they are found and killed. Characters: The three main characters are Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Setting: the books take place in England. Theme or main idea: the message I got would only come to you if you read the book. The message that came to me is that you always have to think of the consequences before you do something, or it could come back and hit you in the face later.

I would recommend this book because it keeps you reading and J.K. Rowling builds up a lot of suspense and every event has a surprising twist along the way, every tiny thing anyone says or does will play a role in the ending. Even the earlier books have things that helped this book along the way.

Title: Cirque Du Freak Book 2 The Vampire Assistant
Author: Darren Shan
Summary: The book Cirque Du Freak 2 The Vampire Assistant was about a boy who wanted to go to a fair and that night he did. At one of the shows these people were performing there was a person acting like a vampire. After the show the boy went to go see the person who played the role of the vampire because the boy thought he was great. The boy, not knowing he was really a vampire was talking to him and asking all these questions about him. Then the vampire took the boy and turned him into a half vampire and half human. The boy could not become full human ever again. The story mostly took place at night because vampires cannot go out into the sun or else they will melt and they will die. The theme or main idea of this story is to not talk to people you don’t know because it could get you into a lot of trouble.

Comments: I thought this book was pretty good and it was fun to read. I like the message of the story because, you area not supposed to talk to strangers because you never might know what will happen. It is not good to talk to someone you don’t know.

If you are in to the type of books that are kind of scary but not really and if you like a good book with vampires then I totally recommend this book.

Title: Dragon Chronicles: Dragon’s Milk
Author: Susan Fletcher
Summary:
The book Dragon Chronicles: Dragon’s Milk is about a green-eyed girl, Kealdra, who lives with two stepsisters, and their grandmother. When she is fifteen years old, she finds out that she is descended from a green-eyed woman Kara, who was a dragon-sayer, meaning that she could understand dragons. Kealdra also finds out that there has been a birthing of draclings, and that she needs dragon milk in order to heal one of her sisters who is very ill.

Comments:
I really love that even though it puts Kealdra in danger to do so, she never stops caring for the draclings whose mother has been killed. I also noticed that even though the setting of this book is in a time and place that never existed, Kealdra still has elements of a girl that you would see today.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes mystical creatures such as dragons, and anyone who likes fiction.

Title: The Giver
Author: Lois Lowry

I read this book once, it was called The Giver. It was pretty much about a community where there is no feeling, emotion, and color. When kids reach a certain age they are given a job. The book is based upon one kid who gets a “special” job, The Giver. The Giver is a person in the community who can feel, have emotion, and see in color. As he goes on with his learning’s, from the Giver before him, he learns he does not longer want to live in the place where everything is feeling less. He then ends up going into another world where there is all this, our world.

The element of fiction that stuck out to me the most was the books plot.
The main character was a young boy and The Giver.
The story is based in another world in present day.
The main idea was that sometimes you have to lead instead of follow.

I really liked the book, I thought the plot was very good and once I started reading it I got sucked into it and could barely ever but the book down.

I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who likes a strange fantasy where everything is different from what our world is like.

Title: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Author: J.K. Rowling

This book is about a wizard whose parents died fighting off Voldamort. Harry went to school at Hogwarts. He met Ron and Herminie at Hogwarts. Harry finds a stone that keeps you alive forever. Voldamort wants the stone. Harry fights Voldamort and wins. However, Voldamort’s not dead.
The main purpose is a kid discovered he was a wizard and finds out the real reason his parents died. It takes place in Hogwarts. Harry Potter is the main character.
The element of fiction is setting and it is important because everything happens at Hogwarts.
I do recommend this book because it is mysterious, adventurous, wizard involving.
